IRIS - Wrath from 26.88 $

IRIS are dead, long live IRIS! Although Andrew Sega and Reagan Jones have officially announced to part amicably at the end of last year, their many adherents do not need to fall into despair.
With the band's expressed consent, Dependent will reissue the long out-of-print third album "Wrath" in two special editions. This pinnacle out of IRIS' impressive catalogue will be released with a new mastering for the first time as a limited 12" vinyl with improved, high-resolution cover artwork. "Wrath" will also re-appear in the shape of a must-have limited edition double CD artbook, containing the remastered album, an exclusive 10-track bonus CD, live photos and liner notes by J. Ned Kirby (STROMKERN) and Dependent founder Stefan Herwig.
J. Ned Kirby, who has supported IRIS live on tour several times, sheds an inside view on the reasons for the reissue of "Wrath": "Each individual album by Iris represents a post-grad course in songwriting and production," the American writes. "Yet with its ten incomparable arrangements for ten perfect songs, 'Wrath' achieves the level of a masterclass. From the explosive opening through 'Land of Fire' to the hopeful coda of 'Delivered One', this is what a band firing from all guns sounds like. On 'Wrath', no element is out of place, no chord is too ordinary, and no song is too long even a second. Or in short: this album is fantastic!"
On 'Wrath', IRIS fused their concise sound design with increasingly prominent guitars for the first time in order to create outstanding songs. This, combined with Reagan Jones' distinctive vocals, resulted in a shoegaze-effect that set IRIS a world apart from the grey mass of random synthpop acts. With the lavish re-release of "Wrath", Dependent pay tribute to an excellent album that has lost nothing of its original fascination even after 15 years.
IRIS - Radiant from 9.59 $

There you have it: a band releases an absolute electronic masterpiece of an album only to practically vanish into thin air afterwards. This is what happened to IRIS, the American duo that issued Electro Pop manifest "Blacklight" in 2010. On the succeeding US-tour however, Andrew Sega and singer Reagan Jones fell out with each other, so the project was put on hold - actually forever. What followed was a long period of silence in which each musician went his own way. At one point though, a small spark was ignited when Reagan Jones sent Sega sketches for three songs. This spark rapidly grew when the two decided to work on another studio album yet again. As the songs took shape, became distinctly more dense, powerful and sophisticated, an album title came up: "Radiant", remembers Andrew Sega. "It is the story of a man who all of a sudden sees his world within a new environment and realises how bright and radiant it can truly be, if one looks upon it with different eyes."

With "Radiant", IRIS have been reborn, so to say, which also explains the warmth and radiant quality of the album cover, which comes in bright colours, maybe even the feeling at its core, which is best described by attributes such as "warm", "flattering" or "harmonious". And even though the compositions carry an air of Zen-like calm and pliability, at least after several listens, "Radiant" captivates with one quality which many other albums in this genre lack: depth. Reagan Jones' vocals lead Andrew Sega's harmonious electronic arrangements and not only give them emotion, but also a feeling one would rather associate with the old 4AD classics: an Ambient-like poise, warmth and sparkling quality of which you can hardly get enough. Maybe it is Radiant's decisive quality that IRIS never adjust their songs to the typical Synthpop earcatcher that makes many genre colleagues seem like bland copies of great English predecessors. With IRIS, the hook practically comes in passing while as a listener, you are truly bathing in their music - or rather: you sit in a limousine and are taken through a strange, shining metropolis by night, marvelling hat the big city lights while driving through illuminated streets and skyscraper canyons. An absolutely fabulous album, the product of a special band chemistry, which Sega explains this way: "Reagan and me, we are two very different characters, just like two opposing forces. Iris is the place in which these forces unite to create something special, and when this dichotomy turns into a synergy, the result is simply something beautiful like 'Radiant'."
IRIS - Six from 9.59 $

"And then, suddenly, the satellite came to life. Incoming transmission."

After a long hiatus on social media channels, the IRIS-satellite unexpectedly reports back to their homebase, including a 50 second snippet of "Third Strike" - the opening track of their new album "Six" - and the message above. The notion of a remote satellite suddenly starting to broadcast again, from somewhere in outer space, is a metaphor that works well on two fronts: the long media absence of the band, and the core concept of IRIS as a project which is "far out" from the normal synthpop genre. Iris stand out from the herd of their genre competitors not just in terms of quality, but also style and mission.
On their 6th full-length album, the North American duo consisting of Reagan jones (vocals), and Andrew Sega (keyboards, production) prove once more that they are able to slowly evolve, yet still rely on their natural strengths - without repeating themselves or boring their audiences. This starts with the amazing vocals of Reagan Jones, that always impress with their natural, yet almost ethereal, ability to convey all the emotion embedded within IRIS' music. His talents works on both worlds, on record and live - a satellite broadcasting a delicate message from far away.
It is this kind of quality that almost makes IRIS the "shoegazers" of the synthpop community. The second quality is within their production and songwriting skills. While other synthpop projects die to write that one hit and make it as danceable and catchy as possible, Iris writes songs that seem to come with qualities naturally built within. The authentic feel and honesty of their compositions immediately contradicts any impression of shallowness. Rather, Iris have an alternative-like quality to them, that always makes you wonder why these songs are so incredibly immersive.
This, then, is perhaps the biggest quality of "Six" -- The immersion within a warm, coherent cosmos of outstanding electronic music. Somewhere, out there in space, there is warmth.
IRIS' album "Six" releases on Aug 23rd 2019 in the following editions: regular CD, 12" limited vinyl, as well as a rare 36 Page hardcover artbook with 7-Track bonus disc, including unreleased songs and remixes by MESH, Neuroticfish and Solar Fake.
